Frank Stella

Frank Stella was a pioneering American artist whose influential career spanned more than six decades. Best known for his early Minimalist paintings, Stella challenged traditional ideas of painting through his use of geometric forms, shaped canvases and bold, often unconventional compositions. From the 1970s onwards, his practice expanded into increasingly sculptural and architectural works, incorporating relief, metal and found materials. His work explored the relationship between colour, form, space and structure, continually pushing the boundaries between painting and sculpture.

Stella's work has been exhibited extensively internationally and is held in major collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and Tate, London.
