Bringing together internationally renowned artists Anish Kapoor (India/UK), Bosco Sodi (Mexico), Dale Frank (Australia) and Bernard Frize (France), Flow is an exploration of colour, surface and materiality. Kapoor’s chromatic etchings, Flow Red, Flow Green and Breathing Blue use subtle gradations of colour to create an illusion of depth. Interested in the interplay of mass, void and optics, Kapoor’s etchings combine western Minimalist sensibilities with the Sanskrit principle of Bindu, the point from which all experiences are born, where creation begins and returns. These works make reference to rich pigment-based works the artist was creating in India in the 1970’s.

Bosco Sodi’s painting Untitled, 2021 has a similarly rich use of colour, in this instance building up raw material to create depth and tension within the surface. Sodi finds an emotive power within the natural materials he choses to employ. His practice is influenced by
Eastern philosophies, in particular Japanese wabi-sabi, which celebrates both imperfection and impermanence.

Where Sodi’s work has a physical depth and density, Dale Frank and Bernard Frizes’ works have a fluidity. In Thai Crab pancakes with green chilli sauce gave him so much grief, 2011 and Chad Michael Murray 2, 2011, Frank manipulates layers of pigmented varnish to flow across the surface. These works draw you in, immersing and engaging the viewer as a participant in his vision of surface potential. Frize’s process in contrast is strict, a series of vivid, vertical bands moving across Suret, 2015. For Frize, the media he employs and parameters he dictates are as important as the artist’s hand, and he embraces intrusions of chance that are beyond his control.
