Coinciding with the release of Shane Cotton: Moerewa | Liquid Sleep, published by Auckland University Press, this exhibition presents a new body of paintings by one of Aotearoa New Zealand's most significant contemporary artists. 

 

For more than three decades, Shane Cotton has developed a distinctive and continually evolving painting practice that brings together histories, whakapapa, language and place. Published to accompany this major moment in the artist's career, Anthony Byrt's Moerewa | Liquid Sleep offers a far-reaching exploration of the people, landscapes and ideas that have shaped Cotton's work and its enduring influence on contemporary art in Aotearoa. 

 

This exhibition marks the publication of the book with an important new series of paintings, continuing Cotton's sustained investigation into the visual and cultural narratives that define his practice.
