Arts writer and journalist Nadine Rubin Nathan has shared an artcile on Claudia Kogachi's solo exhibition Another Day at Gow Langsford Onehunga.
Writing on her Substack Vitrine, Nathan notes: "Her paintings occupy an unusual space: they are figurative without being descriptive, autobiographical without becoming confessional, decorative without sacrificing conceptual depth. Her Japanese heritage is undeniably present, but it forms one strand within a broader meditation on memory, family, place and the quiet rituals through which belonging is constructed. That universality gives the work durability. The recurring gardens, ponds, animals, and self-portraits form a visual vocabulary that expands with each exhibition. Kogachi’s paintings create spaces where multiple identities can coexist without requiring resolution. It’s a difficult balance that relatively few painters achieve."
