Sapeer Mayron for The Press/Sunday Star Times spoke with director Gary Langsford and artist Sara Hughes about our new Onehunga venture.
"Langsford hopes he’s starting something other galleries and dealers will like the feel of, and eventually join Gow Langsford in Onehunga, creating a kind of arts precinct.
“There are a number of commercial, semi-industrial buildings, warehouses, et cetera that would be entirely suitable for galleries. It may not happen but we'll still be fine because of the scale of what we're doing,” he says.
“We could all have openings on the same night and have a lot of fun.”
Langsford has already planned out the next 24 months of exhibitions, inviting not only Gow Langsford-represented artists but also international creatives to show as well.
He’s also talking to local schools about educational visits and artist talks, and hopes to offer a lot to the community.
“It’s the biggest project we've ever done, and it’s basically as exciting as the first day we opened the first gallery 37 years ago,” he says.
“When I should be retired, I’m doing the exact opposite.”''
