Sydney Contemporary 2025: Booth C02
The central focus of Gow Langsford’s presentation at Sydney Contemporary is a bold new body of work by Dale Frank. Renowned for his distinctive resin works, Frank’s vivid compositions, layered with rich colour and unpredictable movement, reflect a career spanning five decades of artistic innovation. His works are luminous, fluid, and technically complex – bold explorations of painting’s material and conceptual boundaries that invite viewers to participate in the performance of their reflective surfaces. The booth will be transformed through spatial intervention, conceived by the artist.
Complementing new work by Dale Frank, Gow Langsford will also present a selection of sculptural pieces. Australian-born Clement Meadmore’s Curl (1967-68) is an elegant study of form. His sculpture denies its physical reality, suggesting weightlessness despite being made of painted steel. Also being featured are a selection of objets d’art from Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) who was a prolific maker of ceramic artworks, partnering with Madoura Pottery in southern France to create more than 600 unique ceramic editions between 1947 and 1971. Each design was produced in a limited run pattern, creating a huge number of beautiful plates, bowls, pitchers, vases and sculptures. These highly collectible and historically significant works display elements of Picasso’s characteristic still lifes, bull paintings and visages – representing his playful exploration of new mediums and challenging traditional hierarchies between fine art and craft.
