Contemporary Artists From China: Group Exhibition
In celebration of Chinese New Year 2007, Gow Langsford Gallery is pleased to present Contemporary Artists from China. The exhibition will draw together works by eight mainland Chinese visual artists in an engaging display of painting, sculpture, photography and performance art. Seven of the eight artists demonstrate the diversity and aspirations of contemporary art emerging from China, while NZ based artist Frank Fu, a leading example of the output from the burgeoning Chinese diaspora, brings a local dimension to the exhibition. Featuring alongside Frank Fu is photography by Danwen Xing and Miao Xiaochun, painting by Cui Guotai, Sheng Qi, Feng Zhengjie and Li Luming as well as sculpture by the infamous Luo Brothers.
These exceptional artists offer a unique insight into topical concerns canvassing issues such as social and cultural transformation, globalisation, urbanisation, industrialisation, philosophy, spirituality, popular culture and self-determination. While many of the artists have exhibited widely both internationally and within China, for most it is their first exhibition within a New Zealand dealer gallery. For the duration of the show, recent MIT graduate Frank Fu, will be conducting a live performance piece at intervals outside the main gallery window.
