OBJET D'ART: Group Exhibition
Objet d'art is an object-based group exhibition titled after the French term which simply translates to 'art object'.
When categorizing art, works generally fall into a number of large groups: painting, sculpture, photography, installation and so on. The remaining works, after the larger groups have been formed, can often fall under the term objet d'art. By the looseness of the definition of the word, a grouping of objet d'art can form an eclectic collection and Objet d'art is no exception.
Objet d'art features small works that have resisted definition by the main categories within our collection. It brings together works of diverse media and features pieces by international artists Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst and Bernar Venet. New Zealand artists include Graham Fletcher, Paul Dibble, Max Gimblett and Martin Poppelwell.
