For Art Basel Hong Kong Galleries 2019, Gow Langsford Gallery will present a selection of works that demonstrate Colin McCahon’s enduring influence, offering ABHK19 audiences a broader introduction to New Zealand art, while also considering McCahon’s practice in relation to his International contemporaries.
In McCahon: In Conversation, McCahon’s paintings will be shown with works by New Zealand and International artists, and will elucidate relationships with key elements in McCahon’s practice. Featuring a selection of works by Gordon Walters (NZ) John McLaughlin (USA), Julian Dashper (NZ), Tony Cragg (UK) and Thomas Ruff (DE), alongside newly commissioned works by contemporary New Zealand artists Judy Millar and Andre Hemer, the exhibition will seek to evince McCahon’s legacy in New Zealand art history, while extending the discourse around contemporary New Zealand painting.
