Escape From Salvation Part III: The Dick Frizzell Group Show: Dick Frizzell

26 October - 19 November 2016 Lorne Street [2008 - 2021]
Overview

Eccentric artist Dick Frizzell needs no introduction. Easily one of the most recognisable artists of our time, Frizzell has brought us iconic imagery, and design through painting for the past 50 years; with no sign of slowing down yet. When thinking about this solo exhibition and the preparation towards it, Frizzell writes: "What do you do if you've been painting for 50 years and instead of running out of ideas they start piling up like presents under the Christmas tree? And not just random ideas, but variations on every half-way decent idea you've ever had?"

The result is a comprehensive 'group show' of Frizzell's own works; some of which are recent and new; others were completed a number of years ago. Frizzell pulls them together in what he describes as archetypes, or 'art-tropes', where they all share a common thread in the Frizzellean library. Although each stands separately on their own merit, they are all obviously Dick Frizzell in their treatment celebrating how diverse and varied his skills are as an artist.
