For TENT, Gow Langsford Gallery presents a group of new works on paper made by four gallery artists during periods of lockdown and restriction.

The past 18 months have affected us all differently, some artists have found the time productive; Judy Millar who already lives at an isolated beach, noted early in the first Level 4 lockdown that she feels like she has been training for this her whole life, while others have noticed a new awareness in everyday things. Sara Hughes has shared that as her physical boundaries reduced, she has felt time slow down; a notion that forms the basis of her upcoming exhibition Time Stamp. John Pule found freedom in exploring his local Opanuku stream and his drawing practice became an experimental fascination with the spontaneous. New York based Max Gimblett did not leave his apartment / studio base for over 14 months - an experience he found surprisingly expansive, which is evidenced in a surge of creativity and an exploration of new techniques, shapes, and materials. Despite the challenges of lockdown, for these artists, this period of quiet and solitude has allowed for new expression, and Gow Langsford is pleased to now offer these works out into the public sphere.
