Adam Art Gallery Te Pataka Toi invites you to join Michelle Menzies and Judy Millar for the launch of Cinema & Painting, the publication that documents and extends the exhibition staged at the Adam Art Gallery in 2014.
5.30 – 6.30pm
Friday 27 March 2015
Gow Langsford Gallery, Lorne Street, Auckland
This 134-page illustrated book includes an extended introduction by Roger Horrocks and a curatorial essay by Michelle Menzies and Daniel Morgan. It also features extensive visual documentation of the exhibition and writing by several of its key contributors including: Hollis Frampton, Oskar Fischinger, Len Lye, Jim Davis and Ken Jacobs, as well as interviews with Anthony McCall, Judy Millar and Phil Solomon. Cinema & Painting is an important addition to both art and film history. Indeed its real importance lies in its attempt to link these two discourses in an entirely fresh way.
Adam Art Gallery gratefully acknowledges the support of Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa and Victoria University of Wellington’s Art History Research Cluster. We also thank Gow Langsford Gallery for hosting the launch on the last day of Judy Millar’s current exhibition, Proof of Heaven.
Copies of the book can be purchased on the night.
Cinema & Painting is available for $45 (+ postage) from the Adam Art Gallery, Victoria University of Wellington. Order online or contact Adam Art Gallery Administrator Ann Gale (firstname.lastname@example.org) for details. It will also be on sale in select bookshops in Auckland and Wellington.
